I had the good luck to see Tim Burton in Toronto twice while he was here helping promote the MOMA exhibit of his work at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Tim was good-humored, gracious and very kind in the first Q&A session where he was asked to watch and offer advice to student filmmakers.
The second event was sponsored by RBC (I won tickets through Twitter – how 2010) and was more of a film clip/retrospective with Tim talking about his films after somewhat randomly selected scenes (the Joker parade/”Party Man” scene from Batman!?!?) I wonder if Tim knew he was sitting up there in front of a couple hundred bankers with not much knowledge of his great work.
It was a long day – the first Q&A was at 9:30, the second at 7:30 – and it was cold. But worth it. You never know when you’ll get to see Tim Burton in person again.
